World Athletics Federations have decided to hold the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September, taking into account the intense summer heat in Japan.

The World Championships in Athletics will take place in September, the second latest after the 2019 event in Doha, Qatar, Middle East.

This will be the third time that the track and field world championships will be held in Japan, following the ones held in Tokyo in 1991 and Osaka in 2007. In 2025, the National Stadium will host about 2,000 athletes from 210 countries and regions. are expected to gather.



At last year's Tokyo Olympics, the venue for the marathon and racewalking was moved from Tokyo to Sapporo due to concerns about the heat wave, but the 2025 Games are planned to be held in Tokyo.



World Athletics announced at a conference in Rome, Italy, that it will be held for nine days from September 13th to 21st, and announced on December 1st.



According to the Japan Federation of Athletics Federations, the world championships are usually held from July to August every year, but the severe heat of summer in Japan was taken into consideration.



In response to this, Japan Association of Athletics Federations Chairman Mitsugu Ogata commented, "We aim to hold the event with the understanding and support of the citizens of Tokyo and the general public in order to further increase the value of sports."
