It was in the middle of the World Cup match between Portugal and Uruguay that the referee had to blow the whistle when a pitch stormer entered the pitch.

The man, who was holding a rainbow flag and wearing a shirt with "Save Ukraine" on the stomach and "Respect for Iranian women" on the back, was later identified as Italian Mario Ferri.

He was arrested on the spot, but on Tuesday morning he has been released.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino personally came and helped him, Ferri tells RAC1.

He says that he had "a lot of problems with the police" but Infantino came and "solved the situation".

- Fifa does not consider my symbols violent, it was a peaceful message.

The police were humane and treated me very well, says Ferri.

Ferri says in the interview that he tried to storm the pitch during the match between France and Denmark, as well as in the match between Spain and Germany, but that he was then stopped by the security staff at the stadiums.

But in the end he succeeded in reaching his goal, which was to send a message to the world.

He is pleased to have succeeded in a country where homosexuality is prohibited by law.

- They could stop the captains from doing it (support LGBTQ+) but they couldn't stop the message from this Robin Hood, says Ferri.
