Portugal beat Uruguay to advance to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0 with Bruno Fernández (Manchester United) leading the way in the second half of the second half of the group stage of the tournament held at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on the 28th (Korean time).

Following a 3-2 victory over Ghana, Portugal, who had two consecutive victories, accumulated 6 points and became the third team to advance to the round of 16 in this tournament.

Earlier, Group D's France and Group G's Brazil confirmed their progress to the round of 16.

Portugal had a slight advantage, but the first half turned into a tight battle.

In the 4th minute of the first half, Carvalho hit the ball that Ronaldo had launched into his chest, but in the 18th minute, Ronaldo's direct free kick was blocked by the defensive wall.

In the 33rd minute of the first half, Son Heung-min's teammate Bentancourt of Uruguay beat 4 defenders and created a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper, but could not cross the last wall.

The tight balance was broken in the 9th minute of the second half.

A cross from Fernández was sucked straight into the net and Portugal took the lead.

It appeared to have brushed through Ronaldo's head, but readings confirmed that it did not touch, marking Fernandez's first World Cup goal.

In the 28th minute of the second half, Uruguay replaced two strikers, including Suárez, and threw a game-winner, but Portugal's goal was hardly opened.

In the 30th minute of the second half, the substitute Maxi Gomes' shot hit the post, and in the 33rd minute of the second half, Suárez connected the ball from a free kick to a shot, but it hit the side net.

Portugal were awarded a penalty kick after Uruguay's handball foul in the second half of extra time.

Fernández pushed in comfortably to secure a 2-0 win for Portugal.

In our national team, coaches Vitor Silvestre and Philippe Coelho watched the match and analyzed the strength of Portugal, our final opponent in the group stage.

As a result, Ghana, who won 3-2 against the Korean national team, rose to second place (3 points), while Korea (goal loss -1) and Uruguay (goal loss -2) recorded 1 draw and 1 loss (1 victory point) side by side. However, South Korea was ahead on goal difference and placed third.

Ghana, Korea Republic, and Uruguay can expect to advance to the round of 16 depending on the results of the last 3 games.

Our national team must win the remaining match against Portugal, and Uruguay must beat Ghana to look at advancing to the round of 16 based on goal difference.
