Karl-Erik Nilsson, chairman of the Swedish Football Association, said yesterday that he could consider supporting Fifa (International Football Association) president Gianni Infantino for re-election in March.

But then it was required that he fulfill a number of requirements from SvFF's.

But after they have now threatened to punish teams that wanted to wear the captain's armband with the text "One Love" and a rainbow heart on it, with yellow cards and suspensions, Nilsson is thundering hard.

- It is an incomprehensible decision on Fifa's part.

An incredible own goal.

Here you had the chance to be able to embrace the whole world, instead you pit the West against the rest of the world.

I have full respect for the tremendous frustration that exists among the seven countries that have now been banned from using this incredibly nice gesture that is about love for everyone, says Nilsson.

"Wouldn't have supported Infantino today"

It is precisely the news about the captain's armbands that has caused Nilsson to reevaluate his view of Infantino.

- If there had been a Fifa congress today, Swedish football would not have actively supported Gianni Infantino in a re-election.

Infantino gave an attention-grabbing speech on Saturday, ahead of the World Cup, in which he attacked the media's reporting.

Then he said, among other things, the following:

- We Europeans should apologize for what we have done in the last 3,000 years before we start giving moral sermons.

There are things in Qatar that are not working, that need to be addressed.

But this morality pie from the Western world is so one sided.

That's just hypocrisy.

Who is the criticized Fifa president Infantino really?

Sweden is not closing the door

It was nevertheless the debate about the rainbow bandages that was the final straw for Nilsson.

- We could have lived with the speech if the strict requirements that we have met (see fact box).

The relationship with Europe has deteriorated strongly in the last 24 hours and this means that we are currently unable to support.

But there are four months until the congress and we live in a world where fast things can happen.

Norway, Denmark and Germany have already said they will not support 52-year-old Infantino.

But Sweden does not close the door completely and hopes that Fifa will change its mind.

- I was born an optimist and believe in the good in people.

I hope that Infantino and Fifa's management can come to a different position.

In the best of worlds, one hopes that one gets permission to use these bracelets.

We know Fifa can do better than they have shown in recent days.
