The last time the Swedish men's national team played in Malmö was six years ago and tonight it was time again when they took on Algeria in a training landscape - an Algeria they had not met in 32 years.

The guests came to Malmö with a tough national team year behind them - having missed the World Cup finals and already out of the African championships in the group stage.

And it didn't get any easier when Ramy Bensebaini was sent off after just over half an hour.

The 27-year-old, who had already been warned, entered late in a duel with Mattias Svanberg and delivered an elbow to the face.

Then came the next blow for the Algerians.

Again it was Mattias Svanberg who was involved when the Swede was brought down in the penalty area and referee Espen Eskås pointed to the penalty spot.

Emil Forsberg stepped forward and scored 1-0 just before the half-time break.

Strength notice and A national team debut

Sweden got off to a dream start in the second half.

Viktor Gyökeres freed Viktor Claesson who could easily score 2-0 which was also the final result.

Message of strength for the Swedish gentlemen who kept Algeria's great star Riyad Mahrez, invisible on a daily basis in Manchester City.

Worth noting is that Aiham Ousou made his national team debut when he was substituted in the second half, instead of team captain Victor Nilsson Lindelöf

The next match for Sweden is against Belgium, on March 24 when they start the European Championship qualifiers at home.
