Calgary led 3–1 heading into the final period.

But in the third, the home team fired up the Islanders and two quick goals in the middle of the third of the period secured overtime.

- The whole team made a strong effort in the last 20 (minutes of regular time), says Anders Lee, who scored one of the goals in the third.

Then it was enough with four minutes of extra time and a shot in the power play by Noah Dobson.

The match ended 4–3 to the home team.

The loss was Calgary's fifth in a row.

- I think we had a lot of opportunities to take it home, says Carlgary coach Darryl Sutter, who also notes that too many mistakes were made.

- If we have the puck behind their goal and it's 3-1, you can't give it away.

Calgary's three goals all came from Swedish players – two from Mikael Backlund and one from Elias Lindholm.

Jakob Markström saved 28 pucks in the Calgary goal.

On the other side of the ice, Islanders Ilja Sorokin played great, making 43 saves.
