The last time AIK and Djurgården played a derby was in the qualifying series in 2014. Then the matches were not played in Globen, but Hovet.

To find the last derby that was played in the Globe, the calendar needs to be scrolled back more than ten years, to the spring of 2012. Then both teams played in the SHL, now it is the Hockeyallsvenskan that applies.

But that doesn't mean the interest is lower.

Both clubs have noticed great interest in the four derbies to be played in the Globe during the season.

And it is something they hope to take advantage of to build interest in ice hockey in the capital.

- It is very important.

I think it will be a fantastic setting, and a fantastic atmosphere too.

Hope it can contribute to bringing something positive to Stockholm hockey and continue to show many younger people that they want to start playing hockey, says Christoffer Malm.

- This specific rivalry that exists triggers conversations.

In our city there are fans who love these matches.

If you haven't been interested in hockey before, you will be, says Djurgården's sports director KG Stoppel to SVT Sport.

“It means so much more”

Even the players rejoice at being able to play in the derby.

Maybe extra for players who have been there before, and who know what it's all about.

- I remember that it was terribly charged.

I think you saw that, especially in the first periods in all those matches.

There was a lot of emotion out there, says Djurgården's Marcus Krüger.

- It's a completely normal hockey match we have to win.

At the same time, you know that it means so much more.

It's a big match for hockey in all of Sweden really, says AIK's Filip Windlert.
