The men's representative for the Grand Slam Tokyo, an international judo tournament to be held in December, was announced, and Shohei Ono, who has won two consecutive Olympic titles in the men's 73-kg class, was selected.

Based on the results of the Kodokan Cup and the All Japan Weight Category Championships, the All Japan Judo Federation held a men's strengthening committee and decided on the representative athletes for the Grand Slam Tokyo, an international competition to be held in December.

A total of 28 people were selected, four in each of the seven weight classes, of which Ohno, who has won two consecutive Olympic titles, was selected in the men's 73 kg class.

Ohno did not participate in the 73kg class after the Tokyo Olympics due to poor condition, and if he participates, it will be the first actual competition in the 73kg class after the Olympics.

Keiji Suzuki, head coach of the men's judo team, commented on the reason for the selection, saying, ``The criteria for selection was that he was close to winning a gold medal, and the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics was a major reason for his selection. I would like you to show me your strength."

In the 90kg class, Rio de Janeiro Olympic gold medalist Mashu Baker, who won the Kodokan Cup, and in the 100kg class, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Wolf Aaron have been selected.

The Grand Slam Tokyo will be held on December 3rd and 4th at the Tokyo Gymnasium in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.
