Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed inaugurates the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi

Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed awarded the medals to the winners of the first places in the competitions of the first day.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, inaugurated the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2022, which will be held from October 29 to November 8 at the Jujitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.

His Highness awarded the medals to the winners of the first places in the competitions of the first day of the championship, in the presence of the President of the UAE and Asian Federations, First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, and President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation Panayotos Theodoropolis.

His Highness praised the efforts made by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation to create the appropriate conditions for the national team to show its skills on the competition mat, so that its achievements became a source of pride for all.

His Highness was accompanied during the official opening ceremony by Dr. Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Head of the Office of the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Mohammed Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, Sarah Muslim Minister of State for Early Education and Head of the Department of Education and Knowledge, Mohammed Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi, and Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi Saud Al Hosani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council Aref Al Awani, Undersecretary of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi Hamad Al Dhaheri, Director General of the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs Rashid Al Mansouri, Director General of the Family Welfare Authority Dr. Bushra Al Mulla, and Director General of Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi Saleh Islander.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, the President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation praised the UAE's role in hosting major jiu-jitsu championships, and its outstanding contribution to the development of jiu-jitsu worldwide.

For his part, the President of the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, affirmed that the wise leadership’s support for the tournaments organized and hosted by the UAE is a great guarantee for the success of these sporting events and achieving their goals, and contributing to strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as the global capital of jiu-jitsu, praising the strong performance of the sons and daughters of the UAE in various fields. International forums and competitions, and their great readiness and focus to maintain the title of world champions for the third time in a row.

The tournament will witness the competition of 2000 male and female players, representing 70 countries.

The national jiu-jitsu team succeeded, during last year's edition, in retaining the title of the world championship, and was on the throne of this global sporting event, achieving 53 medals, including 18 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze, and also won the world championship title in the 2019 edition.
