Lag Edin won its first grand slam title since 2017 during the night of Monday.

But they had to play the last two games without Niklas Edin.

He injured himself before the semi-finals and was forced to cancel the competition.

Oskar Eriksson, who in his absence took over the role of skipper, says that it was during a so-called tee draw before the semi-final that the injury occurred.

- It hit the tendon behind the knee joint, which jumped out of joint, as he experienced it.

He has had it in his left knee before and then it has bounced back on its own.

But now it was the right knee and it was hanging.

Doctors came and tried to localize the problem, but they couldn't get it to end up in the right place again, says Eriksson.

Next competition on Friday

Niklas Edin is now awaiting further examination and x-rays in the Canadian city of Calgary.

The team has two more competitions booked before the trip home and the EC at home in Östersund.

The first event starts on Friday and is a smaller tour event in Swift Current east of Calgary.

- We are going there on Thursday, so we hope to get an answer as to whether Niklas can stay and play or whether it is better for him to go home and rest before the EC, says Eriksson.

"Not used to playing without Niklas"

The Grand Slam title came after Lag Edin defeated Canadian home team Team Dunstone 7-3 in the final, even though the blue-yellow team was one less man on the ice.

First grand slam title since 2017 how did it feel?

- That was about time!

It felt really nice, especially after the loss we suffered two weeks ago.

It was unusual to play without Niklas, there were slightly different roles for the other three of us to handle, but we solved it well, says Oskar Eriksson.

The Curling EC starts on 18 November and is broadcast on SVT.
