Hamburger SV has taken an involuntary break in the promotion race with three games in a row without a win.

The team coached by Tim Walter lost 2:3 (0:1) against 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday and thus remains on the relegation rank.

Mo El Hankouri (11th minute) gave Magdeburg an early lead in front of 54,000 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, then Baris Artik (51st) and substitute Julian Rieckmann (88th) also scored.

Ransford Königsdörffer (58th) and Tom Sanne (90th + 3) only made the connection for HSV.

In the duel between the two teams with the most possession in the league, Hamburg were the dominant team, but for a long time they were unable to develop any decisive advantages against Magdeburg, who attacked early.

The hosts made numerous mistakes and inaccuracies and did not find the space for their powerful attacking football.

Magdeburg, which actually has the weakest defense in the league, initially had Hamburg's offensive under control.

After the 0:2, Hamburg's coach Tim Walter brought three more offensive forces.

After that, the home side gained clear advantages and launched one attack after the other.

In the final seconds of stoppage time (90+6) Ludovit Reis hit the crossbar.

Magdeburg's coach Christian Titz, who looked after HSV when they were relegated to the Bundesliga in 2018, sent a signal of change at his old place of work: 1. FC Magdeburg jumped from the bottom of the table to 15th place.

New coach sees Fürth defeat

SpVgg Greuther Fürth had to accept the next defeat before the eyes of Alexander Zorniger, who was introduced as the new coach after the game.

In the first game after the separation from the previous coach Marc Schneider, the Franconians lost 1: 3 (0: 2) at 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday and are now bottom of the table.

Former Leipzig coach Zorniger initially saw effective Heidenheimers, who punished Fürth's weak defenses through Patrick Mainka (9th minute) and Tim Kleindienst (33rd).

The goalscorer used a mistake made by Fürth's newly appointed goalkeeper Leon Valentin Schaffran to make it 2-0.

Then Zorniger, who last worked for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus, saw a good reaction from his future team and captain Branimir Hrgota's 1-2 lead (52').

A tough penalty decision steered the game back clearly in the direction of the hosts;

Jan-Niklas Beste converted safely (56th).

Nice for the Fürth: Marco Meyerhöfer returned after his serious ankle injury from first division times in the final phase in front of 8130 spectators.

After the 2-2 draw against Rostock on the previous day, Fürth had lost von Schneider.

The management of the team was temporarily entrusted to assistant coach Rainer Widmayer, who, together with co-coach Stefan Kleineheismann, had prepared the team for the game in Heidenheim.

The Heidenheimers remain in fourth place in the lead group.

Fortuna wins away

Fortuna Düsseldorf won the chasing duel in mid-table.

Fortuna won 2-0 (2-0) at Karlsruher SC on Sunday thanks to high effectiveness.

In the table, coach Daniel Thioune's team climbs to sixth place, KSC had to accept their third competitive defeat in a row and is now tenth.

A few days after being eliminated from the DFB Cup, it only took eight minutes before the next setback hit Karlsruhe.

Kristoffer Peterson gave the guests the lead.

It was also the Swede who scored the second goal (22').

After the change of sides, the home side increased in front of 18,132 spectators.

However, despite several opportunities and a total of 11:3 corner kicks, they shouldn't be able to score a goal in a game where the emphasis is on fighting.
