Swedish skiers plan to boycott

FIS competitions

There is still enough time before the start of the international season, especially before the World Cup in cross-country skiing.

In addition, only on October 22, the FIS will once again discuss whether to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in tournaments under its auspices.

But the Swedish athletes decided to draw attention to themselves now.

Lynn Swan and Maya Dahlqvist have announced that they will boycott the Planica competition if Russian athletes are allowed to compete.

A little later, Jonna Sundling supported her teammates.

Echoed the girls and Jens Burman.

In his opinion, representatives of other countries are in solidarity with them.

“I, at any rate, hope so—I hope that everyone is united.

What would it be like to meet them at the start?

It would not be good.

After all, Russia uses sports as propaganda, ”SVT quotes Burman.

In Russia, the situation is viewed differently.

As Olympic champion Veronika Stepanova noted, such a statement by the Swedes is an attempt to once again put pressure on FIS.

At the same time, if the issue is put to a closed vote, the majority will support the admission of domestic athletes.

“Such a survey is not very difficult to organize.

At the same time, ask the sponsors of the competition.

Especially those who promote ski racing equipment through our victories.

And then publish the results.

Surely there will be those who will be against our participation.

But I am absolutely sure that the majority will still be in favor, ”Stepanova wrote in a column for Match TV.

The head of the FLGR, Elena Vyalbe, in turn, advised to stop paying attention to such statements altogether.

“Let them boycott.

They will lose the spectacle of the competition without us, and without them nothing will change, ”Sport24 quotes Vyalbe.

FIS

did not change distances at the World Championships

In the position of the FIS, after the statements of the representatives of the Swedish national team, no changes are yet visible.

The organization did not want to comment on a possible boycott of the competition, since this is a personal matter for everyone.

At the same time, the federation retained quotas for Russian skiers for the World Cup.

Although she emphasized that this decision had nothing to do with the admission of suspended athletes to tournaments.

This issue will be discussed on October 22 and directly depends on the position of the IOC.

I was afraid of the FIS and equalize the distances for men and women at the World Championships in Planica in 2023.

This season the tournament will be held according to the standard scheme.

And it will be possible to talk about further transformations of the skiers' calendar only if the new format proves itself at the KM stages.

Klebo may miss the start of the season

Much more disturbing news for the entire skiing community came from Norway.

National team coach Arild Monsen said that five-time Olympic champion Johannes Klebo could miss the start of the season due to a prolonged recovery from injury.

In July, the athlete was diagnosed with a sprain in the upper part of the hamstring.

According to doctors' forecasts, the recovery was supposed to take 12 weeks.

However, now it is already the 14th, and so far there is no talk of a full recovery.

Klebo still cannot fully train on roller skis.

“It is not known if he will start at Beitostolen.

We will not take risks, our main goal is the World Championship in Planica.

With extreme loads, you can not take risks.

Soon he will fully recover, but it takes an insanely long time, ”VG quoted Monsen as saying.

Ustyugov hardly got admission to the competition

The real quest happened to the Olympic champion Sergei Ustyugov.

During the medical examination, he was not given permission to participate in competitions.

Excited fans have already predicted his retirement, however, as it turned out, the fears were unfounded.

“It's much easier than it seems.

It's just that my previous permit expires on October 28, and now I need to get a new one.

These issues are always resolved before the season, so that in which case there is time to heal.

Just my case.

There are many doctors, and questions can be different.

For example, someone needs to cure a tooth before a certain time.

As soon as you solve the problem, you get a permit, ”the skier explained.

Sergei was not in the tooth.

The athlete had to spend the whole day in the wires: check the heart and blood pressure.

At the same time, according to Ustyugov, he is in excellent shape and did not lose time just like that in the offseason.

“I trained well, put my body in order ... I just need to gain competitive experience, since I missed the end of last season.

There is a lot of interesting things ahead, I look forward to winter.

No matter how some people accuse me of being lazy.

For me, this season, on the contrary, is a challenge.

It's interesting to see what happens.

The goals are clear - the medals of the Russian Championship, ”admitted the athlete.

Yohaug became a commentator

Last season, all the fans, of course, were upset by the decision of Teresa Johaug to end her sports career.

Nevertheless, Norwegian skiers are in luck.

The illustrious athlete will work as a commentator on the state television channel NRK.

“I went for it because I love sports.

This is close to my heart.

I also feel like I'm still in a skiing environment where I go to competitions and meet all the fantastic people in the field.

But I have to admit, it will be strange to go to Beitostolen or to the World Championships in Planica, where you have to stand in front of the camera instead of racing, ”Expressen quotes Johaug.

As Teresa admitted, it is very unusual for her to evaluate skiers with whom she herself recently competed.

A ski base will appear in Chechnya

In the meantime, a new ski base at an altitude of 1.8 thousand meters may appear in Russia. It is planned to be built on the border of Chechnya and Dagestan, on Lake Kezenoy-Am.

According to the coach of the national team Alexei Chernousov, there are all conditions for the training of athletes.

“So that no one interferes with each other, skiers need a high-mountain base with a ski-roller track.

Local residents say: if Ramzan Kadyrov gets down to business, he will definitely do everything, and the ski-roller track will quickly appear.

Already now in Kezenoy-Ama it is possible to work on a section of the road along the lake and to the ancient settlement of Khoy, about 7 km long round trip, which is great,” said Cherkasov.

In addition, the lakeside hotel has a spacious and well-equipped gym.

Nearby is a continuous ascent with a length of about 25 km, where you can organize effective training.

“It is possible to conduct a collection in Kezenoy-Ama right now - in the conditions that exist.

And only after that you can understand what exactly needs to be improved, what comments the athletes and coaches will have, ”added Chernousov.
