The World Cup in show jumping - this is how it works:

The FEI Jumping World Cup consists of a total of 14 leagues worldwide, where Sweden and the competition in Gothenburg are part of the Western European league.

- A total of 14 sub-competitions are ridden in the Western European league where the riders have a chance to collect points in the hunt for a place in the World Cup final in 2023. The riders can count their seven best results during the season.

After the final competition – which is ridden during the Gothenburg Horse Show in February – the 18 best-placed riders in the World Cup total go to the final in Omaha in April.

- The top 16 placed in each World Cup competition get points.

A win gives 20 points, 2nd 17 points, 3rd 15 points.

Fourth place gives 13 points and the points are then awarded on a descending scale down to one point for 16th place

- Sweden has three starting places in the autumn World Cup sub-competitions.

Henrik von Eckermann and Peder Fredricson have their own invitations to the VC sub-competitions because they are in the top ten in the world ranking of jumping.

The Swedish national team captain Henrik Ankarcrona then has another starting place to hand out.

This is how it went in the 2022 World Cup final:

The Swiss Martin Fuchs won the World Cup final in Leipzig 2022. Jens Fredricson and the horse Markan Cosmopolit took third place, after an impressive climb from ninth place before the final jump-off.

Third place was Fredricson's first individual podium in a VC final.
