Hamburger SV's winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga has come to an end.
After the last five successes in a row, coach Tim Walter's team only managed to draw 1-1 (1-0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday evening.
With 25 points, HSV is still at the top of the table, closely followed by Darmstadt 98 (24) and SC Paderborn (22).
With a win, HSV would have matched its streak from the 1978/79 season.
Back then, Hamburg had six successes in a row under coaching legend Branko Zebec – albeit in the Bundesliga.
In a wild game with opportunities on both sides, goalscorer Robert Glatzel (24th) gave Hamburg the lead.
But after Sonny Kittel (81') missed the great opportunity to make it 2-0 with a penalty kick, Lex-Tyger Lobinger (82') struck for the guests.
FCK gave Hamburg the ball from the start and lurked for chances with counterattacks - like in the 19th minute when striker Terrence Boyd headed over the HSV goal after a quick change.
Shortly thereafter, the hosts struck: Glatzel reacted the quickest to a rebound.
Boyd should have made it 1-1 immediately after the break, but he was denied by goalkeeper Matheo Raab (47'), who had played for FCK until the summer.
Kaiserslautern remained dangerous after that, but Kenny Prince Redondo (63') shot over the goal after winning the running duel.
Ludovit Reis could only be stopped after an outstanding solo with a foul in the penalty area, Kittel failed to take the penalty due to Andreas Luthe.
Just seconds later, Lobinger rewarded FCK for their courageous performance.
