It is the first time in eight years that a player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo tops the Forbes list.

Kylian Mbappé's income of the equivalent of SEK 1.433 billion makes up the basic salary 86 percent of the sum, while the rest is earned via, for example, contracts with companies.

The financial magazine lists Messi as the second best paid in the world, at 120 million dollars, while Ronaldo is found in third place.

Norwegian star Erling Haaland is sixth on the list.

It is the first time the Norwegian is on the list.

The ten best paid soccer players in the world earn 652 million dollars, equivalent to around 7.3 billion kroner, this season.

Which means an increase of 11 percent compared to last year.

To find out the players' income, Forbes has partly assessed the players' contracts, partly how much they earn on the side of the football pitch.

The magazine also states that they have spoken to oral sources, industry experts and used databases in the process to come up with the stars' earnings.
