Portland has teams in the top women's league, the NWSL, the Thorns, and in the men's league, the MLS, the Timbers.

Now the chairman Gavin Wilkinson and the financial manager Mike Golub are fired from their positions that they had in common in both clubs.

As recently as earlier this year, Wilkinson had signed a new contract with the club.

Portland Thorns owner Merritt Paulson is taking a break and making no decisions regarding the team while the investigation is ongoing.

"Yesterday's release of the Yates report was the darkest day I've ever experienced, and I know the same goes for everyone else who loves our team and our league," Paulson said Tuesday, according to ESPN.

- I know it was even harder and darker for those whose stories were shared publicly.

I cannot apologize enough for our role in a gross system failure to protect player safety and the mistakes we made in 2015. I am truly sorry, Paulson continued.
