Runner dies after collapsing during London Marathon

A 36-year-old runner has died after falling during the race yesterday, organizers said today.

The runner, from southeast England who was not named by organizers, collapsed to the ground 23 miles into the race.

The organizers issued a statement saying, "Although he received treatment on the spot, an ambulance rushed to the site of the accident within three minutes, but he later died in hospital."

"The deceased's family has requested respect for his privacy, and further details will not be disclosed in accordance with their wishes. The cause of death will be determined at a later time after a medical examination."

Kenyan runner Amos Kipruto won his first title in the London Marathon, while Ethiopian Yalmziref Yehualu won the women's title.
