The 23-year-old Ethiopian ran into a speed bump with about a mile left in the 42,195-meter race.

But she immediately caught up with the lead of the other six runners in the group, and with just over six kilometers to go, she pulled away from the others and was then able to maintain the lead all the way to the finish line.

Third fastest winning time

The winning time for Yehualaw was 2.17.25.

It is the third fastest winning time in London Marathon history, two minutes slower than Paula Radcliffe's 2003 record.

The men's winner was the WC bronze medalist from 2019, the Kenyan Amos Kipruto.

Kipruto, who had never run the London Marathon before, won in a time of 2.04.39.
