In 2014, Tove Alexandersson won the overall world cup in orienteering for the first time.

After that, no one else has been able to celebrate the overall title.

Not this year either.

Knew victory would be enough

Although there is still one victory left, it is now clear that Alexandersson will win the overall cup for the eighth time in a row (in 2020 the World Cup was canceled due to the corona pandemic).

The prerequisites for the day were that a victory in the Davos middle distance would be enough to secure victory.

And when Alexandersson, as the last participant, set out in the Swiss forests, she immediately showed that she was in top form.

The lead narrowed

Because when she reached the first TV control after 2.28 p.m., she was a full 56 seconds ahead of the competitor for the World Cup title, the Swiss Simona Aebersold - who made a different choice of route to the control.

At the second TV check, the lead had indeed narrowed, but was still 44 seconds big – and the victory was more or less complete already there.

She did make a mistake on one of the last controls, but because the lead was so big, it was enough to win.

The margin of victory ended up being Andrine Benjaminsen, Norway - who finished strongly.

Swedish Lisa Risby was third and Sara Hagström fourth, when Aebersold's final miss proved to be really costly.
