The German volleyball players have reached the second group phase of the World Cup prematurely despite a defeat against Olympic champions USA.

The team of national coach Vital Heynen lost in a clear 0:3 (17:25, 13:25, 24:26) against the top favorites in Lodz, Poland for the second time in a row, but fourth place in the group of six goes to the DVV women before the final duel with Canada on Saturday (4:00 p.m.)

Against the world number one, USA, who only lost one set at the World Cup, the German team had to admit defeat, just like the day before when they lost 3-0 to defending champions Serbia.

Top scorer of the DVV selection, who missed a set point in the third round, was Kimberly Drewniok with eight points.

The DVV selection won the first two games against Bulgaria (3:1) and Kazakhstan (3:0).

So far without a medal

Because both Bulgaria and Kazakhstan also lost their fourth game on Friday and can therefore no longer overtake the German team, the Heynen team can already plan for the second group phase.

This will be played in two groups of eight from October 4th to 9th, the four best teams in each group will reach the quarter-finals.

The German women have never won a World Cup medal.
