The Dunhill Links Championship is a somewhat special competition on the DP World Tour, formerly the European Tour, as it is played on no fewer than three historic links courses in Scotland.

The courses in question are St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie.

During Friday, the weather gods offered classic British torrential rain and strong gusts.

Alex Norén also went out on Kingsbarns, generally seen as perhaps the toughest course.

However, that didn't seem to bother the Swede, who was recorded for 69 strokes, three under par, while other players struggled.

Second for the weekend

- I think it's a good place to play.

It's not super easy, but there's room off the tee and I played well.

You just have to trust that you can actually play golf because you can't feel your hands or anything, so keep the ball low, even downwind, and don't try to play hero.

It was a very tough, but good round, says Norén in Viaplay's broadcast.

He further states that it was one of the worst weather conditions he has ever played in.

Ahead of the weekend's two final rounds, Norén is well in the close battle and is alone second on a total of eight strokes under par.

The competition will be decided on hallowed golf ground when the Old Course at St Andrews awaits this weekend.

Then there is the promise of strong wind, but no rain.

"Hate rain"

- I love wind but I hate rain.

It would be terrible to have two more similar days.

I love the Old Course so it will be fun, says Norén.

In addition to Norén, only eight players out of 167 shot under par.

Britain's Richard Mansell leads on a total of ten strokes under par.
