Soccer professional Max Kruse, who was retired from VfL Wolfsburg, will be out for several weeks.

The 34-year-old suffered a "serious muscle injury" during training, as a spokeswoman for the club said on Wednesday at the request of the German Press Agency (dpa).

"It's a hamstring tear," Kruse said on Instagram Wednesday night, adding that his break lasted about four weeks.

Given his current situation in Wolfsburg, he joked: "But you know, guys.

I'm not in such a hurry now that it depends on one week or the other."

The downgraded attacker could have completed his last training session for the Lower Saxony team, as a change in the seasoned player in the winter has so far been considered very likely.

Coach Niko Kovac had suspended Kruse and publicly stated that he would no longer play a game for the club.

Kruse's contract situation is still open.

The former player from Werder Bremen, Union Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach still has a contract in Wolfsburg until the end of June 2023.
