Egyptian tennis star Mayar Sherif reaches the quarter-finals of the Rome tournament

Egyptian Mayar Sherif reached the quarter-finals of the Italian International Parma Tournament for 250 points on clay by defeating Swiss Simona Waltert 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) yesterday.

It was the fourth match between the two players, with the Egyptian winning three wins against one loss.

Sharif, winner of the Spanish Marbella and German Karlsruhe tournaments for 125 points this year, beat Hungarian Anna Bondar 7-5 6-4 in the first round.

Sherif will meet in the quarter-finals with American Lauren Davis, who beat Spain's Sarah Sorribes 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Greece's Maria Scari, the first seed, also reached the quarter-finals, with a difficult victory over Arancha Ross of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, while the fourth American, Sloane Stephens, left by falling to Montenegro's Danka Kovinic 5-7, 6-2, 5-7.

In the next round, Sakkari will play Belgian Marina Zaniewska, who defeated the other Hungarian Dalma Galvey 6-1, 6-3, and Covinic with Italian Yasmine Paolini, who defeated her compatriot Elisabetta Kochiarito 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Romanian Anna Bogdan reached the sixth round, defeating Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, to set up a meeting with her compatriot Irina-Camelia Pego, the third, who defeated Italian wildcard Matilde Pauliti 6-4, 6-4.
