Anicet Mbida delivers to us every morning what is best in terms of innovation.

This Monday, he is interested in a new method of communication which could soon be essential, that of holograms.

Your innovation of the day, it is the telecom operators who are preparing a new way of communicating for us.

After voice calls, text messages and videoconferencing, now comes… holograms.

The goal?

Do as in science fiction movies.

We can discuss with someone at the other end of the earth, but with the impression that he is really in front of us.

A demonstration has just been carried out by the 4 largest European operators (Orange, Deutsche Télécom, Vodafone and Téléfonica).

They are still in the development phase.

Nothing will be marketed for another year or two.

But they are convinced to hold the next revolution in telecommunications.

As the hologram is 3D, eye contact would be more natural.

We would be more immersed in communication.

It should therefore be more pleasant than the video Zoom, Teams and others.

How do we visualize these holograms?

This is the problem.

To send your own image, you use your phone as for a videoconference.

But to see your interlocutor in 3D in front of you, you absolutely have to wear virtual reality glasses, those capable of projecting an image in the field of vision.

Again, they are convinced that in a few years, they will be everywhere.

That's still a lot of bets.

I remind you that the front camera has existed on phones since the 2000s (more than 20 years ago!).

At the time, it was already a fad of operators who were trying to push us to do videoconferencing.

Except that people preferred to take selfies.

And it's only very recently that we started to get started.

So, if we listen to you, there is little chance that it will work.

The future is unpredictable, we'll see.

I simply note that we use our phones less and less for live communications (voice call or video call).

We tend to favor off-the-shelf communications (Mails, SMS, WhatsApp).

Why ?

Because we are more comfortable.

That we can take our time, perfectly control what we are going to answer, instead of having to react directly, tit for tat.

Above all, you no longer have to show your face or let your voice be heard...
