His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee, met with the winning athletes in the activities of the fifth edition of the "Islamic Solidarity Games", which was held last month in Konya, Turkey, with the participation of 6000 athletes from 56 countries.

His Highness affirmed that "the value of the achievement made by Emirati athletes during the course's activities embodies several dimensions in the Emirati sport's march that go beyond honorable representation and decent appearance, after these athletes, with their determination and will, presented luminous models in honorable competition, establishing the rules of fair play, and emphasizing the principles of friendship, excellence and respect." Which are in line with the strategy and approach of the United Arab Emirates, and constitute the main values ​​of the National Olympic Movement.”

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, during his conversation with the athletes, pointed to the prominent role played by the National Olympic Committee during the participation in major regional and international sports forums, in which the highest meanings of belonging to the homeland are manifested, stressing that the Emirati athlete carries the He bears the great responsibility that raises the flag of the Emirates, and rises before all athletes from different countries of the world.

His Highness valued the honorable achievements that were achieved for the first time in the history of the state’s participation in the Islamic Solidarity courses, and the largest number of medals compared to all previous editions with 10 medals, with the first gold medal since the beginning of participation in the first edition of the course in 2005.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum called on Emirati athletes to continue improving results in the fields of sports competitions. His Highness said: “We congratulate all athletes for their high level of excellence, and we urge them to continue their achievements and work to implement the vision of the UAE leadership. And the application of the fifty principles, especially those related to the consolidation of the global reputation of the UAE, as it is a national mission for all institutions.”

In the activities of the fifth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, the UAE sports delegation achieved 10 colored medals, three gold, two silver, and five bronze, which came through three sports: cycling, judo, and bow and arrow for people of determination.

The country has advanced in the general ranking table compared to the previous Islamic Solidarity Games since the first edition that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2005, in which the UAE ranked 20th with five medals, while the UAE came 19th in the third edition of the tournament in 2013 in Balmpang, Indonesia, with four medals, and ranked 29th in the fourth edition in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, in 2017, with four medals as well.

The meeting was attended by Engineer Azza bint Suleiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the National Olympic Committee, Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the Committee, and a number of heads and representatives of sports federations.
