The International Boxing Federation held an extraordinary congress in Armenia on Sunday.

The organization has had pronounced problems with the board since the Russian Umar Kremlev became chairman.

Now he has been re-elected.

- For Olympic boxing, this is a complete disaster, I want to say that it is a disaster for boxing in general, says Per-Axel Sjöholm from the Swedish Boxing Federation to SVT Sport.

"The sport can die out"

In the past, it has been pointed out that there was bribery of judges and that the association is financially dependent on the Russian-owned gas giant Gazprom.

Sjöholm disagrees with his criticism.

- It is a completely undemocratic organization, I want to say that it is pathetic how the management has acted.

- For Olympic boxing, this is a complete disaster, I would say that it is a disaster for boxing in general, he says.

What does this mean for boxing as a sport?

- This means that boxing will disappear from the Olympics in 2028.

And what does that mean for the practitioners?

- There are an awful lot of countries that receive financial support because it is an Olympic sport, it will disappear in many places, it means that the sport can die out, he says.
