Håkansson tells TT that the golf association has been discussing the issue since last summer, when Stenson became part of the LIV tour and at the same time was kicked from his captaincy for Europe's Ryder Cup team, and that they wanted to finish the season before making a decision.

- We have come to the conclusion that we will not renew the collaboration with Henrik before 2023, says Håkansson.

How did you come to the decision?

- We think that Henrik, through his involvement in LIV golf, can no longer act as a role model for Swedish golf juniors.

LIV golf runs counter to the sporting ecosystem we believe in.

We invest a lot of money in children and young people, in the tours, in the dream of one day making it all the way and this is something we do together with Sweden's golf clubs in a fairly advanced competition ladder, which many consider to be one of the best available within golf world.

"Clashes with our core values"

- LIV golf is not such a place.

We see it rather as a show series and then we don't think it fits together.

That's the reason simply, it clashes with our values when it comes to sports.

Stenson has previously been an ambassador for the golf association's paragolf and he has also had a junior competition together with Fanny Sunesson.

Does the decision apply to 2023 or indefinitely?

- We don't know, I must be very careful to say that Henrik Stenson is the best male golfer we have had in Sweden, a fantastic role model in many ways who has given many dreams and many joys to watch, says Håkansson.

Don't know Stenson's response

Håkansson continues:

- No one takes away from him what he has done for Swedish golf, his success will be eternal and I hope and believe that you can distinguish that.

Those are two different things.

But right now we don't think he is suitable as a role model in our junior activities and in our para activities.

How did Henrik take the news?

- We actually don't know, we had a dialogue with him a week or so ago, informed him that we were facing this, asked for replays, got some replays, but it's not a regular negotiation in any way.

It is a dialogue and now we have announced our position.

What would it take for you to work with him again?

- I think it's a hypothetical question, there are two parties.

Henrik must be interested, we must be interested, now we choose not to renew.

Stenson has previously, along with other players who chose to be part of the LIV tour, been banned from playing on the PGA tour.

However, it is not yet known how the European Tour, which is also critical of the Saudi-supported tour, will "punish" the LIV players.

Stenson already organizes the Swedish competition Scandinavian Mixed, which is part of the European Tour, together with Annika Sörenstam.

TT has been in contact with Henrik Stenson, who currently declines to comment.
