In the letter, the Russian Biathlon Union RBU mainly points to five points as to why the skiers should be allowed to compete again:

  • RBU's and Russian athletes do not pose any threat to the integrity or security of IBU activities or competitions

  • RBU is not responsible for the situation in Ukraine

  • The RBU does not violate the IBU's rules and upholds the IBU's values

  • The RBU does not adversely affect the IBU's reputation

  • Ukrainian athletes are allowed to compete

  • A continued suspension of the RBU would be unreasonable

During a congress in Switzerland, the IBU will discuss whether Russian biathletes should be welcomed next season.

According to IBU chairman Olle Dahlin, the EBU will be on the link and speak for their cause because they are not invited to the congress.

- It is of course very sad that this is where we have ended up, at the same time I do not currently see how we can welcome them back to the World Cup, it would feel very strange, Sebastian Samuelsson has previously said about the situation to SVT Sport.
