WC debutant Malmgren came close to going all the way to the final, but lost yesterday's semi-final against Mongolia's Khulan Batkhuyang after losing a 6-0 lead.

Instead, she had to recharge before tonight's bronze medal match against seasoned Vinesh Vinesh from India, one of the early favorites in the weight class.

Malmgren's first ever medal match at a World Cup was tough and she couldn't find an attack that worked against the 28-year-old Indian's defense.

Vinesh won 8-0 and can add another WC medal to his collection.

Malmgren finishes in fifth place.

This spring, Malmgren – who is described as the future of Swedish wrestling – won EC gold in the 53-kilogram class.

She also became Junior World Champion in 2021 and won gold at the 2018 Youth Olympics.
