Annika Sörenstam already arranges Scandinavian Mixed together with Henrik Stenson on the European tour.

Now she gets her very own competition on the ladies' US tour.

"The Annika" is the name of the new LPGA event starting in 2023 at the Pelican Golf Club outside Tampa in Florida.

"It is an incredible honor to host one of the leading events on the LPGA Tour schedule at Pelican Golf Club, a world-class facility, together with my good sponsor friends," Sörestam says in a press release and continues:

“Giving back to the game I love and developing the next generation of players has always been important to everything we do.

I look forward to this new partnership and to taking this competition to new heights on the LPGA Tour.”

Attracted big stars

The golf club has hosted the Pelican Women's Championship since 2020 and quickly managed to attract a strong starting field.

Last year, American superstar Nelly Korda won after a playoff where she beat other big names like Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko.

More details about "The Annika" will come after this year's competition, which will be decided between November 10-13, has been completed.

According to Golf Digest, an expansion of the prize pool is expected.

Organizes youth competition in Sweden

Annika Sörenstam, who retired in 2008, has made something of a mini-comeback lately.

Last year she won the US Senior Women's Open and this year she played two events on the LPGA tour, including this year's US Open at Pine Needles.

Sörenstam has won more than 90 events around the world, including ten majors, and still leads the LPGA Tour's money league.

She already organizes the Annika Invitational Europe in Sweden for girls under 18.
