Helsingborg, back in the top league after being down and turned in the Allsvenskan, found themselves at an early disadvantage but came back before halftime.

The guests even got a two-goal lead 19-17 after two quick goals, the last a counterattack that Emil Andersson deliciously lobbed into the goal.

The second half began in the same efficient way, and Helsingborg already had two seven-goal scorers in Jonatan Wilthorn and Andreas Windahl in the 40th minute.

At most, the Skåne team led by four balls (25-21).

But as often in handball it was even in the end.

Alingsås, who this weekend advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swedish Cup, came close and with ten minutes left, the new acquisition from Aranäs, Oscar Gentzel, gave the home team a tight lead to 29-30.

A goal difference also separated the teams in the final stages of the match.

With 30 seconds left, Alingsås had the ball, took a tactical timeout, and would then just score that tying goal.

But instead they squandered the situation with a missed pass and Helsingborg held back.

The joy was unmistakable after the final whistle.

One of the heroes of the match was Jonatan Wilthorn, the veteran in Helsingborg who has been with the team for so long that he has been involved in promotion to the handball league three times, who scored a total of 10 goals.
