It was Sweden's dream start in the Davis Cup, which started on Tuesday.
Sweden won 2-1 after victories for Elias and Mikael Ymer and loss for Elias Ymer and André Göransson in the doubles.
- I'm still a little dazed, thought there was a chance, but knew we needed to be very hungry and determined., but if you don't have the execution, it doesn't matter, this is a stamp of quality, says Davis Cup captain Johan Hedsberg.
Elias Ymer, ranked 119 in the world, surprisingly won his match against 37th-ranked Argentine Sebastian Baez 2-1 in a tiebreak.
- Elias is not in the top hundred, so it's all the honor in the world, says Hedsberg.
"A sign in the right direction"
98th-ranked Mikael Ymer faced Diego Schwartzman, South America's top tennis player and ranked 17th in the world, and put in a huge performance as he won in two straight sets.
- It speaks for itself, he is ranked seventeenth in the world, he has a clear idea of how it should go, but it is another thing to execute it, I think it is fantastically well done.
Hedsberg is impressed by Sweden, who play in Group A and are thus up against the toughest opposition imaginable.
- That the boys and Sweden are in the top division is a sign in the right direction.
That you end up in a tough group like this and then beat Argentina, it goes without saying, it's very, very good
- Today, Swedish men's tennis is doing well, a day like this.
Now you get to enjoy this day.
On Thursday, Sweden faces Croatia and on Sunday Italy awaits.
