• Madrid The VTC will pay the user if the race is canceled

  • Analysis The inaction of the Government in the conflict between the taxi and VTC that can cost 2,000 million to the State

Last July, the Catalan Government approved regulations on VTCs,

an acronym for Tourist Vehicles with Driver, and which are dedicated to providing services similar to those of the taxi.

Uber, Cabify or Bolt are the three best-known operators and the latter has denounced the effect of one of the changes introduced in this new legislation.

This is the rule that requires vehicles providing this service

to have a minimum length of 4.90 metres.

Only some high-end passenger cars and vans reach it,

so those who cannot invest in buying a new vehicle have had to resort to a solution as simple as it is ridiculous: incorporate approved steel extensions to the vehicle and thus achieve the required dimensions.

The installation of a steel structure in the rear allows it to reach 4.90 meters

Affects freelancers and SMEs

"Regulating the size of vehicles is a measure that disproportionately penalizes the self-employed and the small fleets that work with us, not the large operators. In particular, those who have made a recent investment in the purchase of vehicles and VTC authorizations" have denounced from Bolt.

Likewise, they have warned that the Junta de Andalucía is finalizing a regulation on VTCs also with quite a few restrictions, such as the creation of multiple areas banned from access for these cars or the approval of a regional permit that would significantly reduce the number of operators.

Regarding the length,

the known drafts indicate a minimum length of 4.70 meters.

A more consistent size but which is not reached by any sedan or family in the compact segment (Seat Leon, Renault Mégane, VW Golf....)
