The joint plans to apply for the WC 2030 are confirmed from both Egyptian and Greek sides.

- The three nations are working hard and are looking at applying for the 2030 World Cup, a spokesman for the Egyptian sports minister told DMC television.

A source at the Greek Football Federation also confirms the information to the AFP news agency.

The three nations are looking at hosting the World Cup in winter, just like this year's World Cup in Qatar, according to The Times.

A World Cup with Saudi Arabia as one of the organizers would be controversial as the nation is already accused of trying to wash away its bad reputation regarding, among other things, human rights through "sportswashing".

The new and heavily criticized LIV golf tour is one example, as is Premier League club Newcastle, which is owned by the Saudi Arabian state.

"After the purchase of Newcastle, the arrangement of (boxer) Anthony Joshua's fights and the highly controversial LIV tour, it feels almost inevitable that Saudi Arabia will also apply to host the 2030 World Cup as the crowning glory of their sportswashing," writes Amnesty.

There have already been two applications to co-organize the World Cup in 2030. In August, the trio of Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay submitted their application, and last year Spain and Portugal.

In 2024, the international football association Fifa will make a decision on where the World Cup 2030 will be played.

"If Saudi Arabia becomes an official candidate for the 2030 World Cup, Fifa should avoid the mistakes it made with Qatar 2022 and Russia 2018," writes Amnesty.

The World Cup 2026 is organized by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
