Chunichi's 45-year-old Kosuke Fukudome, the oldest player in professional baseball, has decided to retire, according to interviews with people involved.


Fukudome, 45, from Kagoshima Prefecture, joined Chunichi in 1999 as the first draft pick.

He also played in the major leagues for five years and had a total of 2450 hits in Japan and the United States.


According to officials, Fukudome has already expressed his intention to retire to the team, so he will hold a press conference soon to explain the reasons for his decision to retire.
