Russian Daniil Medvedev won the third match at the US Open without losing a single set to his opponents.

Previously, he went over Stefan Kozlov and Artur Rinderknesh with a skating rink, and in the next meeting he forced U Ibin to cover his racket.

The 22-year-old became the first Chinese player in US Open history to reach the third round of the competition.

Moreover, athletes from the Middle Kingdom have not reached this stage of the Grand Slam tournaments since 1946, when Ho Sin Ki did it at Wimbledon.

At the same time, U Ibin had to break into the main draw of the tournament through qualification, and in the first round he beat the 31st seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili in three sets.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Chinese athlete has practically not participated in international tournaments, which is why he sank to 1869th place in the ATP rankings, but since March 2022 he managed to rise to 173rd line.

The match with Medvedev became one of the main challenges in his career for him, and the tennis player spent it quite worthy.

The favorite did not immediately adapt to the tenacious game of the opponent.

Y Ibin tried to play actively at the reception, often using shortened shots, forcing the Russian every now and then to go to the net.

In the middle of the first set, the rivals even exchanged breaks, but then Daniil completely took the reins into his own hands.

In the remaining two games, he allowed the Chinese to win only four games and completed the meeting in less than two hours - 6:4, 6:2, 6:2.

The first racket of the world made 12 aces in a match against one of the opponent, and also showed a good percentage of winnings from the first balls - 71%.

According to Daniil, it was a good serve that became the key factor in the victory.

He also chalked up 26 winners, ten more than his opponent.

At the same time, the Chinese made much more unforced errors - 42 versus 27.

Medvedev was quite pleased with the shown tennis.

“If you ask what could be improved in my game, then nothing really comes to mind.

Perhaps there would be fewer double errors, but this is if you really dig into it.

And so, I think, I played this match at the highest level.

If I continue like this, I will have a good opportunity to succeed.

However, the next match will be difficult.

We must try to recover normally and approach him 100% ready, ”the tennis player said after the meeting.

In the fourth round, Daniil will face the first serious test in this draw.

He will take on Wimbledon 2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios, whom he lost just three weeks ago at the start of the Masters in Montreal.

At the same time, the score of personal meetings is still not in favor of the first racket - he was able to take the upper hand in only one match out of four.

However, according to the Russian, he knows what needs to be done to win: serve well, bring sets to a tie-break and use every chance.

“We had great matches.

And the score in all was pretty close.

3-1 in his favor, but this time I will try to prove myself better, and the audience will have a great match, ”Medvedev said.

Daniil also shared his opinion about the difficult nature of the Australian, who often behaves defiantly on the court, argues with the judges and sometimes provokes opponents.

“I wouldn't call us friends.

I mean, we didn't go to the bar together.

In my opinion, we have great mutual respect.

We also didn't have any skirmishes or anything like that on the court, which can change at any moment.

We are both quite impulsive.

You never know what the future holds.

At times, Nick behaves differently on the court than other tennis players.

That is his choice.

This is his life - it's not for me to judge, ”said the Russian.

Kiryos himself is also looking forward to a new meeting with the first racket of the world and is determined to deprive the opponent of this title, although he emphasizes that it is not a shame to lose to a tennis player of this level in any case.

As you know, in case of defeat, Daniil will lose leadership in the ranking.

“Given my game, strategy and the success I had against him in Montreal, I definitely think I have a good chance.

At the moment, few players can say that ahead of the game with Medvedev at the US Open.

They can leave the court, but they are unlikely to stand in front of him, confident in their victory.

According to my feelings, I am definitely one of those who have a chance.

Given the way I play now, I have a chance.

I think it will be a fun fight,” said the Australian.

The remaining matches of the third round with the participation of the Russians were also successful.

Karen Khachanov dated Jack Draper.

The 26-year-old Muscovite confidently won the first set, but in the second the Briton equalized.

In the third installment, a more intense struggle ensued, but with a score of 6:5 in favor of Khachanov, the opponent refused to continue the fight due to an aggravation of a hamstring injury.

For reaching the quarterfinals, Karen will fight with the Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta.

In the women's part of the tournament, Lyudmila Samsonova and Veronika Kudermetova dealt with their rivals without any problems and reached the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in their careers.

Samsonova defeated Serbian Alexandra Krunic - 6:3, 6:3.

This victory allowed the Russian woman to bring the unbeaten streak in the WTA tour to 13 matches.

In August, she won two tournaments in a row - in Washington and Cleveland.

For reaching the quarterfinals, Lyudmila will argue with the offender of the legendary Serena Williams - Ayla Tomlyanovich from Australia.

Kudermetova, in less than an hour, defeated the Hungarian Dalma Galfi - 6:2, 6:0.

In the next round, the fifth racket of the world, Ons Jaber, is waiting for her.
