Thierry Henry has decided to get involved in the world of Italian football.

The French football legend announced on Monday that he has invested in the Como club (Serie B), an ambitious team that has moved from the amateur world to the 2nd division in a few years.

"It's a new chapter in my life", rejoiced the top scorer in the history of the Blues (51 goals in 123 selections).

“I know the love that people have for football (in Italy) (…) Tourists come to visit the city.

In France or Spain, we talk about Lake (Como) and the beauty of the surroundings.

But now is the time to talk about the club,” said Henry.

A role not yet revealed

Already assistant coach of Belgium, Thierry Henry indicated that he would "come as much as possible" to Como.

But the president of the club, the Englishman Dennis Wise, former captain of Chelsea (1990-2001), refused to reveal his role and wavered on the amount invested by the French to become a shareholder: "Thierry is a shareholder, it is all I can say”.

“We want to take advantage of his experience and ideas.

You can call him an ambassador.

We will talk in depth about football,” explained the club president.

The arrival of Henry in the shareholding of Como adds to that of his former teammate at Arsenal, the Spaniard Cesc Fabregas.

Arrived from Monaco this summer, after a year in which he only played two games, Fabregas (35) has, in addition to his entry into the capital of the club, signed for two years as a player in the Lombard city. .

“The fact that Henry and Fabregas have joined us means that we are doing a good job.

There is ambition, three years ago no one would have imagined such a thing, ”claimed Wise.

Serie A, "a long-term objective"

Owned by Indonesian tobacco giant Djarum, Como has not seen Serie A since 2003. Bankrupted several times, the Lombard club moved up from the fourth division in 2017 to Serie B last season, where it finished in 13th place.

Wise assured that Serie A is "a long-term goal" for the club.
