Akane Yamaguchi becomes the first Japanese player to win consecutive badminton world championships

In the women's singles final of the badminton world championships held in Tokyo, Akane Yamaguchi defeated Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei of China by a game count of 2 to 1, winning her second straight tournament title.

This is the first time that a Japanese athlete has won consecutive victories in this event.
