There were not optimal conditions for victory in Glasgow on Saturday due to both practice and competition being moved forward due to rain, but Nilsson would still manage to win the final and thereby clinch one of the only three places for the WC series in speedway next year.

- There were many, many hours out on the course in light winds.

It was a day that took a lot of energy and strength, but I managed to keep it together and qualify further, he tells SVT Sport.

When it came to the final heat, Nilsson had the decision in his own hands.

In case of heat victory, the WC place would be secured.

- It was crazy.

I knew the last heat, that if I win, it's over, he says and continues:

- I went out there in the last heat, got off to a good start... got away from the others.

It was sick that last lap when you understood that it would work, that I would take home the heat and what that meant.

I couldn't believe that at the time.

When I stood on the podium, it was pretty clear what had happened.

- It's probably the best thing I've ever done.

It's the biggest thing I've managed to do.

Only once before had Nilsson made it to the GP-Challenge final, in 2015, but he has been trying to qualify for the WC for ten years.

- Then it was a difficult day, engines that broke during training, one after the other.

Yesterday everything worked the way you want it to work.

Next up is the last regular season round in the Speedway League together with the Rospiggarna.

But thoughts about the WC series have already started to spin and the goal is to create the right conditions to be able to perform at your very best, says Nilsson.

- This is something completely different, you can prepare in a completely different way when you know you have to participate.

It's where you want to be one day, you've had the goal of getting there, but it's like the eye of a needle, he says.

- It's really hard to get there, but now I'm there and I'm going to enjoy it.
