The Jiangxi Provincial People's Procuratorate assigned prosecutors to appear in court to perform their duties, and the appellant, Lao Rongzhi, and his entrusted defenders appeared in court to participate in the proceedings.
The first-instance judgment of the Nanchang Intermediate People's Court found that between 1996 and 1999, the defendants, Lao Rongzhi and Faziying (which had been judged in a separate case), conspired and divided the labor. Faziying committed violence, and successively committed 4 crimes of robbery, kidnapping and intentional homicide in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and Hefei City, Anhui Province, resulting in the death of 7 victims.
After the incident, Lao Rongzhi absconded with aliases such as "Shirley" and was arrested by the public security organs on November 28, 2019.
The Nanchang Intermediate People's Court ruled that the defendant, Lao Rongzhi, was guilty of intentional homicide, robbery, and kidnapping, and was punished for several crimes. It was decided to execute the death penalty, deprive him of political rights for life, and confiscated all personal property; compensate the plaintiff in the incidental civil lawsuit Loss of more than 48,000 yuan.
Lao Rongzhi appealed against the criminal part of the original judgment.
During the second-instance trial, the appellant, Lao Rongzhi, his defender, and the procurator who appeared in court fully expressed their opinions on whether Lao Rongzhi constituted intentional homicide, his status and role in the joint crime, whether the first-instance sentencing was too severe, and whether the first-instance procedure was illegal. , Lao Rongzhi made the final statement.
The court announced an adjournment and sentencing at a later date.
