In the round of 16, both Falck and Möregårdh each knocked out a compatriot - Anton Källberg and Jon Persson.

In the quarter-finals, another Swede would be knocked out by a national team colleague, because Truls Möregårdh, seeded as first in the tournament and sixth in the world ranking, and Mattias Falck, 33rd in the world ranking, were pitted against each other.

Before the meeting, Falck had never defeated Möregårdh in a competitive match.

The first set was tight.

When it was 11-11, the Swedes entered a dramatic duel, but in the end it was Möregårdh who made it 13-11 and took home the set.

2–0 in the set then came easier for the Swedish star shot (11–4), but Falck would reduce it to 1–2 in the third set after partly sharpening his own game but also having been invited to several mistakes by Möregårdh and playing together 11–8.

A Falck on top would then equalize to 2–2 (11–7) and the quarter-final suddenly became wide open.

Despite Möregårdh's pressure, Falck managed to take the lead in the match, 3–2, and in the sixth set it was Falck who ruled and set, to finally decide the match and win 4–2 in the set.

Germany's Dang Qiu, who defeated his compatriot Timo Boll 4-0 in the quarter-finals, awaits in the semi-finals.
