The Belgian WC rally is the ninth WC sub-competition of the year, and Kalle Rovanperä has a lead of a whopping 94 points in the championship before the asphalt competition.

The 21-year-old Finn has won five races this year and opened the rally with a stage win by 2.5 seconds to Elfyn Evans.

Rolled several laps

After the strong start by the WC leader, the accident happened just a few kilometers into stage two.

Rovanperä went a little wide in a high-speed section, the car touched the edge of the ditch and rolled several laps before stopping in a field.

Both Kalle Rovanperä and his map reader Jonne Halttunen survived the crash unharmed and got out of the car by themselves.

It is currently unclear whether the duo will be able to restart tomorrow, the car must first be taken back to service to be able to inspect the damage to the car.

Friday's stage contains eight stages in total and is still ongoing.
