The postponed World Cup qualifying match between Brazil and Argentina will not be played.

The football federations of Brazil and Argentina have received the right from Cas.

""Brazil against Argentina will not be played.

The dispute has been resolved in Cas," the unions write in a joint statement.

Last year's World Cup qualifying match between Brazil and Argentina in São Paulo was stopped when employees of the Brazilian health authority stormed onto the field as the Argentine squad allegedly violated the country's quarantine rules.

Reacted strongly

Although the match had no sporting significance, as both countries had already qualified for the World Cup in Qatar, the international football governing body, Fifa, ordered the match to be played in February and was scheduled for 22 September.

The football confederations reacted strongly to playing a qualifying match of no importance to them so close to the World Cup and submitted an application to avoid playing the match.

Fifa responded with a flat no and fined the confederations several million kroner.

But now it is clear that there will be no qualifying match.

In this winter's World Cup tournament, Brazil has been drawn into Group G along with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.

Argentina enters Group C with Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia.
