Global warming, the importance of energy savings and financial difficulties got the better of the Rouen 24-hour motorboat race (Seine-Maritime).

The City announced Thursday that it had withdrawn the authorization allowing the motorboat race to be held.

The last edition of the event was organized in 2019, indicates France Bleu Normandie.

The health crisis linked to Covid-19 had led to the cancellation of the endurance race on the Seine in 2020 and 2021. The 2022 editions had been postponed several times for budgetary reasons.

The return of the event was scheduled for 2023, on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.

Gilles Guignard, responsible for the organization, said he was "very disappointed".

A duty of action

He denounced the “false pretexts” of the socialist and ecological municipal team.

In a press release, it explained in particular that "global warming, so tragically visible this summer through major and recurring episodes of heat waves, also has consequences and pushes us to act".
