At the European Swimming Championships, France now has eight medals, including three titles.

Monday in Rome, Maxime Grousset, Charles Rihoux, Charlotte Bonnet and Marie Wattel were crowned European champions in the 4x100 freestyle mixed relay.

It is in particular a nice consolation prize for Marie Wattel.

The swimmer has indeed managed to overcome her disappointment at the start of the evening, when she could only win silver in the 100m butterfly, to touch the wall in the lead in the last relay.

With a time of 3 min 22 sec 80, the Blues won ahead of Great Britain (3:23.30) and Sweden (3:23.40).

“A little revenge” for Charlotte Bonnet

Like Wattel, Grousset, only fourth in the 100m freestyle, and Bonnet, seventh in the 200m, had already experienced a disappointment during their week in the Italian capital.

"It's a little revenge," said the 25-year-old Frenchwoman, who won her third medal of the competition, after silver in the 50 and 100 m butterfly.

Maxime Grousset, who had launched the Blues perfectly by positioning them in the lead, adorns himself with his second medal after silver in the 50m butterfly, just like Charlotte Bonnet, silver medalist in the 100m freestyle.

It is a novelty, however, for Charles Rihoux, 24 years old.

“First podium, first Marseillaise, first everything.

All of a sudden.

I don't really have the words to describe it, but I'm very, very happy,” he said.

Yohann Ndoye Brouard is still aiming for a podium

In the other races of the evening, Yohann Ndoye Brouard, titled Saturday in the 200m backstroke, failed to repeat his performance in the final of the 50m backstroke, in which he took seventh place with a time of 25 seconds 06. From Tuesday, he will dive back into the Foro Italico pool for the 100m backstroke series.

“I would like to make a podium again,” he said.
