Liverpool coach: Critics of Darwin Nunez were quick to judge him

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp praised Darwin Nunez's physical and technical abilities, saying that critics of the Uruguayan striker did not give him enough time to adapt to his new surroundings before being judged.

Nunez, who was signed by Liverpool from Benfica for 75 million euros ($76.45 million), has come under fire for failing to do well in the pre-season's 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.

After his early struggles, Nunez scored four goals in a friendly match against RB Leipzig and scored in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield and in the league draw with Fulham last week.

"Five weeks ago, when we started pre-season, Nuneir didn't do well from the critics' point of view in his first game," Klopp told Sky Sports in an interview today. He is relatively different from the rest of the players out there. He is an active striker with a lot of energy. He is very strong physically and technically and these things will increase with more stability, harmony, confidence and his feeling of safety in his new surroundings."

Klopp stressed the importance of giving players more time to blend in with their new teams and said new signing Erling Haaland had also faced early criticism.
