Football fans get nervous when Pele, the 'soccer emperor', opens his mouth ahead of big tournaments such as the World Cup.

This is because the old 'Pele's curse' that if Pele, who is 82 years old this year, predicts a match or praises someone, will do the opposite.

Football's infamous Pele's curse extends to tennis this time.

The singles final of the Women's Professional Tennis (WTA) Tour National Bank Open (Canadian Open) was held today in Toronto, Canada.

Beatrice Hadad Maia (26) of Brazil, who is ranked 24th in the world, faced strongman Simona Halef (15th, Romania), who won the majors twice.

Hadad Maia of Brazil never made the top 50 until last year, but this year she won her first Tour event.

In this competition, they also beat strong players such as Sibilontech (Poland), which ranked No. 1, and made it to the finals.

In the midst of this, Pele praised Hadad Maia, a native of his country, ahead of the final.

Pele wrote on social media, "It's great to see Brazilian sportsmen conquering more and more different sports. Congratulations to Hadad Maia reaching the final of the Canadian Open. I will support you today."

Hadad Maia had to be content with runner-up after losing 1-2 (6-3 2-6 6-3) to Halef.

The curse of Pele, who was infamous in football, also applies to tennis.
