Officially.. Karim Benzema's competitors for the "Best European Player" award have been revealed

Real Madrid's French striker Karim Benzema, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and the latter's citizen, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, will compete for the European Player of the Year award, according to the Continental Football Association (Wifa) announced today.

This award rewards the best player in the old continent and will be awarded on the 25th of August, on the sidelines of the draw for the group stage of the Champions League.

Benzema, who contributed strongly to his team's victory in the European Champions League at the expense of Liverpool in the final match, and was crowned top scorer for the competition with 15 goals, is a strong candidate to succeed the Italian Jorginho, the Chelsea midfielder.

Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 matches he played in various competitions during the 2021-2022 season, and Real Madrid also won the Spanish championship with him.

And by scoring the second goal against Eintracht Frankfurt in the European Super Cup match on Wednesday, Benzema became Real Madrid's second best scorer in history with 324 goals, surpassing club legend Raul Gonzalez.

As for Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper and Benzema's colleague, he was chosen as the best player in the Champions League final, where he made many saves that contributed greatly to crowning his team.

On the other hand, De Bruyne won the English championship with Manchester City and reached the Champions League semi-finals, only to lose his team to Real Madrid in particular.
