17-year-old David Popovici continues to reap success.

In June, he won gold in both the 100m and 200m freestyle during the WC in Budapest and it looks like that fine form is intact during the EC in Rome.

During Friday morning's 100 meter free trial, he broke the previous European record by a whopping 17 hundredths of a margin, and in the semi-final a few hours later, he struck again.

The new record time?

46.98 – just seven hundredths off the world record.
