Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee and Head of the Executive Office, attended yesterday evening the opening ceremony of the Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games, which was held at the Metropolitan Stadium in Konya, Turkey.

The UAE flag was carried at the opening ceremony by the cycling duo Youssef Mirza and Safia Al Sayegh.

The ceremony was opened by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey, in the presence of a number of heads of state and government, presidents and representatives of the National Olympic Committees.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Turkey, Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, Secretary-General of the General Sports Authority, and Engineer Azza Bint Suleiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the National Olympic Committee.

The performances of the ceremony began with singer Maher Zain, after which the ceremony witnessed artistic and historical performances of the Turkish heritage, during which drones were used with the use of visual technology.

On the other hand, Dr. Ahmed Al Falasi visited the residence of the UAE delegation, and called on everyone to focus and redouble efforts to achieve the largest possible number of medals, and to invest this strong session as a sports station before entering the upcoming benefits.

The shooting team started the “dirt” competition, where Hamad Al-Kindi succeeded in achieving the full mark in the first day’s competitions with 75 bowls, equal with Kuwaiti shooter Abdul Rahman Al-Faihan in first place, while Yahya Al-Muhairi won 70 bowls, and Daher Al-Ariani scored 63 bowls.

The bow and arrow team for People of Determination also opened its men's and women's 50-meter singles competition, where Habib Al Balushi scored 600 points, Ghulam Khorshid scored 423 points, and Mohammed Al Shehhi scored 581 points, while Haifa Al Naqbi participated in the competition, achieving 581 points in the women's competition.
